Bones is a 29-year-old freelance digital illustrator living in Manchester in the UK. He specializes in realistic figurative painting, although he often employs comic book styles and techniques to give the images An extra kick. Fantasy, sci-fi, gothic, historical, pinup, retro and surreal material (or any combination of the above) are favourites of his to work with, but his style is pretty flexible and can be applied to most subjects. Stylistically, Bones’ artwork is influenced heavily by the (largely pencil, gouache and airbrush) illustrations that were popular when he was growing up in the 80s and early 90s. As a kid, so many magazines, films and game covers practically leapt off the shelves to pummel his senses and drag him over to them, and so Bones never forgot the impact of work by artists such as Bob Wakelin, Glenn Fabry, Drew Struzan, Simon Bisley, Oliver Frey, Dermot Power... there’s a long list from this period, but he has decided to spare you! Even though Bones works digitally, he follows a similar work pattern to traditional art, and uses PS brushes that he has personally designed to emulate the look and feel of the media. This gives his artwork a traditional, slightly retro look. You can see more of Bones' artwork at:
