POETRY BY MASON CANTWELL
Mason Cantwell is a musician residing in central Ohio. Many of his ideas come from a cadence or vocal melody that enters his mind. Every time that happens, he can be sure that it will not work for a recording session (which he finds frustrating) so he turns to poetry instead for those particular ideas. A lot of his work is influenced by Dave Mustaine, Warrel Dane, Tom Waits, Alan Moore, and Frank Zappa.
Other hobbies that Mason enjoys are growing and harvesting his own food, as well as photography. He loves the company of a few good friends, family, and bird dogs.
GATEWAYS
Without presence of mind
Beating
But rotting alive
Apparitions contort out of line
Demise of mental sight
Blind eyes
Hollow stare into the abyss
It’s always been there
Stirring of the wicked
Frequencies subliminally gifted
To those blooded in truth
Gateways to the forbidden
Hall of past lives
What begs to be seen
Again and again
The moon chained by night
And the prophecy begins
THE DESTROYERS OF I
I was busy losing it all
Within shadowed corners
A slipping grip
A fate to hate
The death inside
Restless
Take some pills
Hallucinate
Into a broken state
More than a decade of hell
They can’t understand
In the ward of demise
A mind defied
Society swings the axe
What binds is still unbroken
Well they took my head
And out spilled my soul
The death of control
And what's more to unfold
Solitude
More than a decade now
No mind, no life
Gone away from sight
Unaware of the consequences
Rendered defenseless
I cannot defy
The destroyers of I
They were always my mind
SOULLESS SHELLS
The paradigm
The philosophical shift
To wanting more
Destroying our world
And fucking up your shit
The blind eye
The paradoxical grip
Of desperation
Destroyed nations
And the beyond desiguised
Twisting tongues
Allotted grief
The meaning is only believed
A flickering light
The fire inside shall cease
All is done
None have won
Succumb to time
Deceased
Rotten hearts
Decayed minds
Soulless shells
Of the obsolete
