Michael Travis Fahl grew up in Salt Lake City, a non-mormon among Mormons. The distinction between Modes of Being defined both Mike's acceptance of classical approaches to art ie. Landscapes and portraits, as well as a friction against and away from the traditional piety found within that State.He split his energies providing both classical techniques and conservative results as well as moving more towards the carnivalesque and twisted-surreal. 

Mike's motifs are often lewd & a tad obscene.

He is inspired by learning the techniques of other artists and illustrators whom he admires. So Mike has a tendency to learn through observation and investigation how another illustrator is doing their work. 

Myths, legends, theology as well as the mundane beauty found on the planet inspire his work. Impromptu, when asked what inspires Michael he generally says "Lot's of drugs and heartbreak."
