ART BY HEATHER LANDRY

HEATHER

Heather Landry is an Indiana (USA)-based horror artist. As you can see, one of her new hobbies is designing goofy face masks. Back in August 2013 when she first contributed to The Horror Zine, Heather was working from a tiny corner of her kitchen table. Eight years later, she’s still there, working her full time graphic artist job serving the funeral industry, and then turning around and pursuing her personal fantasy and horror art right after she clocks out.

Heather’s influences are the stories of Arthur Machen, Edgar Allan Poe, Manly Wade Wellman, and H.P. Lovecraft, the movies of John Carpenter (especially The Thing), eighties horror movies and young adult horror fiction from that period, the movies and short story collections of Alfred Hitchcock, medieval history and superstition, true crime mysteries, and murder ballads such as the Child Ballads. She also loves legends and stories from all cultures surrounding monsters, fabulous creatures, or beliefs about death.

Heather’s favorite thing to do is to illustrate horror stories, whether they be hers or someone else’s. After over 20 years of working as an artist, Heather has been privileged to work with a variety of publishers and has seen her art on book and magazine covers and on albums, tabletop games, comics and clothing to name a few. Almost every project has been skewed towards fantasy or horror, and she couldn’t be happier about it.

Heather is currently in the process of illustrating her fantasy horror novel, The Cradle of the Worm. Her gripping and gory story follows both the lone survivor of an atrocity and a soldier playing a deadly game, and their parallel pursuit of the same enemy across the face of a swiftly deteriorating planet. Two audio chapters of the beta version are available for you to preview HERE. You can keep track of publication notices for the final novel on her twitter, @sandpaperdaisy.
