J.B. Lee was born in Charleston, West Virginia. He took art classes in high school, but beyond that, he is self-taught. Influences include Steve Ditko, Alex Toth, Philippe Druillet, Lee Brown Coye, Jack Davis, Gahan Wilson, Charles Dallas, and many others. He grew up during the Monster Mania and Flying Saucer Freakout of the late 1950s and early 1960s and has directed his talents toward the “teratologically incredible,” as Robert Bloch defined it, for as long as he can remember.
