Christen Adrianne Romero attends a visual art academy program at Doral Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy in Miami. She lives in a crossroads neighborhood called Fontainebleau; Fontainebleau teeters between the upper-middle class neighborhoods of Doral and the economically-challenged Sweetwater area, full of recent immigrants and Nicaraguan fritangas. She calls Fontainebleau the best of both worlds. Christen entered and won her first art contest at the age of twelve. She exhibits her work locally, including the Doral Art Fest and Gallery Night at Doral Park. She also donated artwork for exhibition at Miami Children’s Hospital. After school, Christen paints murals in her school to liven up dull classrooms and halls. Christen’s artwork include abstract art, portraits, and surrealism. She is fascinated by eyes and makes eyes the focal point of her portraiture. Christen feels that through a person’s eyes, you see the real person within. Her expressive work is based on emotion and holds messages which are difficult to verbalize. She strays away from the student norm and tries to create her own style. Christen has grown as an artist thanks to three factors. One is the support of her family, her biggest fans! The second is her art teacher Andrea Fuentes, who has motivated her and helped her develop her talents over the last four years. Finally, teacher Dayami Alvarez has guided Christen to become something more than a student artist. Ms. Alvarez’ strength of character has inspired Christen to choose art as a future career.
